In the seventh inning, the scoreboard radiated red numbers showing two strikes for the Varsity Mustangs and a score of 5-4, Dutchtown in the lead. On Wed. Mar. 13, the Bulldogs caught the ball, striking out the Mustangs.

“We just weren’t as a team together tonight and we just couldn’t hit,” Patrick Holloman #24, junior, said.

The game had a sluggish start, Dutchtown and Ola both taking turns making runs and striking out between innings. The Mustangs continued to push to get the score they wanted out of the night, but sadly they failed.

We just gotta come back stronger and work harder in practice ”

— Patrick Holloman

In the last two innings, the Mustangs just barely managed to win the game with a striking 5-4 score at the end. Jack Witmer, junior, #23 ran to the third base but unfortunately, Dutchtown caught the ball just in time. This gave the Mustangs a third strike, ending the game.

Even though the Mustangs lost, the team has set goals to prevail for the rest of the season.

“We just gotta come back stronger and work harder in practice… [I hope we] go undefeated and go to the playoffs and go deep,” Holloman said.

The Varsity Mustangs will be playing on Monday, March 18 at Union Grove High School against the Wolverines, starting at 5:55 pm.
