  • On May 8, Scoops opened its sixth location in the McDonough square. Owners Brad and Lisa Tucker are long time McDonough residents with ties to Ola. This new business adds to the recent revitalization of the square. Scoops is more than just an ice cream shop, it also features old fashioned candy by the bag or pound, chocolates and gourmet caramel apples.

“Most of the chocolates and all the gourmet apples are made in store,” Alicia Wiggins, general manager said.

The store features 32 flavors of ice cream that are made exclusively for Scoops. They also feature 10 different types of ice cream cones.

Not only is Scoops a great place for a sweet treat but it is also a fantastic place to work.  Scoops employs many Ola Students.

“At the beginning it was really stressful because everyone was learning, but once you get the hang of things it’s a really fun environment,” Mallorie Wiggins, sophomore and granddaughter, said.

Many did not expect the store to be so busy. Opening week, they broke the single day sales record for Scoops.

“Our sales have exceeded our expectations,” Wiggins said.

The store is designed in a whimsical fashion with a hint of Willy Wonka. This makes guests like the shop even more.

“I like the atmosphere here. It gives people a place to go on the square,” Jett Blackburn, junior, said.

Scoops is definitely the place to go for hand scooped ice cream. Whether it is Superman, Oreo Cheesecake or Cake Batter, everyone has a favorite flavor. The store is open Monday through Saturday, 11am-10pm and Sunday 2pm-9pm.
