Ola Pins Another Win
Ola’s wrestling team adds yet another win to their 25-2 record.

This past weekend, Ola’s junior varsity and varsity wrestling teams both placed first at the 49th annual South Metro Invitational, which Hampton High School hosted this year.
While the tournament is wrestled alone and participants place individually, an overall winner is still announced based on the highest team score, a composite score based on each of the wrestlers’ separate wins.
“Last year we also won the tournament but we were extremely close to [Locust Grove]. This year we won by a long shot. No one was even close,” Amani Jones, junior, said.
Jones, winning the 120 lbs. weight class, is among Ola’s varsity team’s 11 medalists, five of those being for first place.
The coaches, Nick Meadows and Joey DiNino, work-based learning instructor, felt satisfied with Ola’s win. However, they did leave their wrestlers with a warning at the end of the tournament.
“When you have a reputation as good as you do, other teams are looking for you. They’re going to come after you. They want to beat Ola,” DiNino said.
The team will continue drilling in hopes of not only growing as individual wrestlers, but as a team.
