Congratulations to Amani Jones, junior, and Reese Jones, sophomore, who won first place at GHSA’ Traditional Wrestling State Championships of 2020. A. Jones wrestled at the 122 weight class in the girls’ division, and R. Jones wrestled at the 106 weight class in the AAAAA division.

Jones brought home her second championship title while R. Jones won his first.

“After seeing my brother win, I felt so proud. I knew that all the hard work he’d put in would show up in his match,” A. Jones said.

As a team, Ola placed fourth in the AAAAA division. Besides the brother-sister-duo, Ola brought home five state placers, including Gavin Hayes, junior, and Samuel Harris, sophomore, who both placed second, Bryce Fowler, senior, who placed third, Brian Dalton, senior, who placed fourth and Conner Kimbrough, freshman, who placed fifth.

“I didn’t quite reach my goal but I’m ready to focus on where

I need to improve to prepare myself to win a state title next year,” Harris said.

Marking the end of a successful season, the underclassmen on the team anticipate an even better one in the coming year.
