This year’s football team was one of the many sports teams to establish new precedents for success at Ola High School as they made the school’s first trip to the playoffs where they battled the Ware County Gators.

After a successful season like the one they had, one might expect many individual players to be recognized, and they wouldn’t be incorrect.

The nine coaches of region 4-5A announced their All-Region team, and it featured eight Mustangs.

Senior lineman Dylan McCloud joined juniors Chris Rodriguez, Logan Powell and Austin Smith on the First Team All-Region roster.

Rodriguez took this season as his opportunity to cement himself as a premier player in the region by averaging over 150 yards per game on the ground this season.

“Right now, this feels pretty good. It was  goal coming into the season, and we accomplished it,” said Rodriguez, “Dylan [McCloud] and the rest of the offensive line deserve all of the credit.”

McCloud ended his senior season on a great note after creating opportunities for Rodriguez and the rest of the Mustangs offense.

He also pointed out the success of his teammate Smith.

“This season was definitely his [Smith’s] best season. He worked his tail off, and he enitrely deserved the recognition he got,” said McCloud.

On the defensive line, the 6’4” Smith was responsible for two sacks and 33 tackles from his spot as defensive tackle.

Smith was impressed by another All-REgion team member in Powell.

“Logan [Powell] really impressed me because he didn’t play his frehman and sophomre years. He came in new and played amazing,” said Smith.

Powell certainly pulled his weight from his spot as linebacker, also accounting for two sacks while averaging an impressive 11 tackles per game.

Second Team All-Region Mustangs were Sauvignon Hayes, Logan Holloman, Andrew Curry and Justin Lamar.

The Mustangs’ honorable mentions were Bryce Lawrence, Tyler Jedding, Logan Hutson, Jake Nelson, Josh Rushin and Clay Sumner.
